2/14/18 Environmental PD for ConneXions High School Staff
On 2/14/18, Michael Bohorquez and Steven Johnson led an environmental PD for the high school staff. Their qualifications are as follows:
There are approximately 30 staff working in the middle and high school at ConneXions. Fifteen (15) staff members attended this environmental PD, ensuring that 50% of ConneXions staff were trained. Since we are a green school, we do not have paper sign-in sheets. The pictures are posted below.
- Michael Bohorquez – special educator at ConneXions; former Safety Engineer for the Pentagon in charge of preparing and delivering safety presentations and training; graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School, focusing on outdoor leadership and teaching.
- Steven Johnson – social studies teacher at ConneXions; board member of the Baltimore Environmental Control Board.

To warm up, staff participated in a competition to create the best "art animal" out of trash and recycled materials.
Next, Steven and Michael led a discussion about environmental consciousness.
Finally, staff were led through an activity where they had to differentiate between trash and recyclable materials. Staff were taught the difference and were given activities to use in their own classroom to teach students how to differentiate.
After the PD, staff members such as Ms. Padgett posted the recycling guidelines in their classrooms to share with their students!
