ConneXions Bike Club
Students in the bike club meet on Tuesdays after school. Students learn how to rebuild, repair, and rehabilitate donated and recycled bicycles. Students learn about the importance of sustainable transportation and also learn how to create means for their own sustainable transportation (using bicycles to get to-and-from school). Students also learn proper tool names and usage. Students were voted into leadership roles and serve as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
Both middle and high school students attend bike club. The following is the attendance for bike club from the 2017-2018 school year:
Bike Club Leaders: President: Adonis; Vice President: Charles; Treasurer: Aniya; Secretary: Natirah
Building of a School Bike Rack
Students worked to build a bike rack to store students' bikes at school. This rack was built in November of 2017.
Bike Rides on Surrounding Streets and in Surrounding Parks
Students take bicycle rides to surrounding parks (Hanlon and Gwynn Falls Parks), and take rides on the streets surrounding the schools. Students exercise and experience the beauty of their surrounding environment. Students ride on days Wednesdays and Thursdays (other days than bike club). Each ride has a student ride leader who leads the entire ride. Multiple students participate on these bike rides as well as teachers (not just bike club members). Staff even came to the club to learn how to ride a bike!
