2.0 Green Grant Implementation 12/18 (2 AUs)
I have submitted the Green Healthy Start Challenge Grant for ConneXions. It is currently under review.
Since ConneXions is now a MAEOE Green School, we applied for $2,500 for the green grant!

Although Earth Day is not until April, I have requested permission to host an Earth Day event at ConneXions on 4/25/19. Updates will follow.

I applied for, received, and deposited the Green Healthy Start Challenge grant and specified the usage of the funds:
5.4 Earth Day Celebration 3/19 (1 AU)
I began planning the April 2019 Earth Day Celebration. I reached out to Anika Richter at the Baltimore City Office of Sustainability to plan an Earth Day project for our students and corporate volunteers:
I also reached out to Green leaders at Bard HIgh School (which shares the same campus as ConneXions to plan a meeting to organize a campus-wide project for our Earth Day event:
I reapplied for the MAEF Urban Youth Garden Grant to cover some of the costs of the Earth Day celebration, which includes rebuilding the garden:

I received and deposited the Green Healthy Start Challenge Grant for the amount of $2,500:
Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, I was the Green Leader at the school and held green meetings, attended green activities (weekly bike club, garden club), assisted the Green Team in updating the green website, and held meetings between ConneXions, Angela Davis, and Bard to plan our Earth Day event.
At the weekly bike club (Mondays), I ensured attendance was documented, kept a list of items we need to purchase, coordinated snacks with our bike club volunteer, and joined the rides as a chaperone.

Mr. Bohorquez is the bike club advisor and I assist by providing communication between the club and administration:
I provided the intermediary between the bike club and our registered volunteer, as shown by the texts below:
Grant documentation: (not complete yet - this will be due in June 2019). Teachers still need to submit receipts from classroom projects (trout tank, etc). We are going to purchase bicycles and parts still for the bike club and pay for a bus for a bike club field trip.
Examples of receipts:
Our bike club volunteer, Evan, submitted receipts for reimbursements for the food for bike club.
I was the intermediary between ConneXions, Bard, and Angela Davis to plan the Earth Day event. We used money from the grant to buy the supplies for the garden club (led by Mr. Bohorquez and myself) and to buy food and supplies for the event. I started by scheduling a meeting between the 2 schools and the GHSC coordinator:
And I coordinated the meeting between the GHSC, Bard, ConneXions Green Team and administration, and our Master Gardeners:
Since the garden build event was an activity between ConneXions, Bard, and Angela Davis, we had to coordinate the use of the grant money to pay back teachers at Bard:
I oversaw our Green Team student volunteers during Earth Day:
And I ensured that students from our Green Team participated:
Throughout the year I led the Green Team and ensured the website was up-to-date:

Our Earth Day celebration event was scheduled for 4/23/19 and was a coordinated effort between ConneXions, Bard, and Angela Davis. All three schools had student and teacher representatives assisting in building a new garden (raised beds) and cleaning up the campus.
Below is documentation of the Earth Day reminder that was posted in the school newsletter:

I communicated with school staff to organize and coordinate the event:
Below are the pictures from our Earth Day Garden Build and Community Cleanup. All three schools (ConneXions, Bard, and Angela Davis) worked together to build garden beds and clean up the campus. We had volunteers assisting from the Baltimore Community Foundation and the Baltimore Office of Sustainability!
We received the following email after our Earth Day event:
